Joe Satriani Guitar Secrets book is a great collection of exercises, tips and techniques from a series of articles he wrote for one of the guitar magazines from 1987 - 1991. This book contains 41 lessons various playing styles that joe uses like chord progressions, open tunings improvisation techniques,arppegios and much more.
There alot of great concepts that most would deam "advanced" and yet, they're broken down into basic intructions that anyone with a little theory knowledge can understand right away.
This is not your regular " learn how" guitar books the techniques show will need to be practised but the benefits to your playing will be immeasurable. Joe's playing style isn't easy but he can certainly put togther a great solo.

I have been looking for books dealing with Joe Satriani guitar technique for some time, and not really technique, but essential guitar knowledge that can be applied to any style. Speed, coordination, and theory all exist in this collection of magazine excerpts. Awesome shiz-nit.

A great tool for improving. Puts enthusiasm back into your mind. Open tunings are awesome and fun to play around with. Enough material in this book to keep you busy creating awesome sound and music for a lifetime.
